Steve Earle - Townes (New West)
Taking on the catalog of a friend, collaborator and musical hero is never an easy task. But ever-brash folkie Steve Earle was more than willing to do so, to honor the late legend Townes Van Zandt. What makes the record so successful is Earle´s obvious devotion to his friend and mentor, showed throughout the album in careful reproductions. According to the New West Records Web site, Earle even tought himself "Rake" and "Marie" just to be able to play them on the album.
"Poncho and Lefty" sounds just as earnest as ever thanks to Earle's mournful, dust-in-the-wind vocals. Special Guest Star Tom Morello brings extra guitar grit to "Lungs" (produced by John King of the Dust Brothers) as Earle snarls through a voice box and his wife Allison Moorer gives a little extra warmth and soul singing harmony on "To Live is to Fly."

Pero folkie jamás-insolente Steve Earle fue más que dispuesto a hacer para honorar así, la leyenda muerta Townes Van Zandt. Qué hace el registro tan exitoso es Earle´s devoción obvia a su amigo y el mentor, mostrado a través del álbum en reproducciones cuidadosas. Según el Nuevo Oeste Registra sitio web, Earle aún enseñó su mismo "Rake" y "Marie" para poder justo tocarlos en el álbum. "Poncho and Lefty" suena justo tan serio como jamás gracias a Earle dolorido, el polvo en el viento vocal. La Estrella invitada especial Tom Morello trae granos extra de guitarra a "Lungs" (producido por John King de los ¨Dust Brothers) como gruñidos de Earle por una laringe. Su mujer Allison Moorer dan un calor y el alma poco extra que cantan armonía en "To Live is to Fly."
The Juan MacLean - The Future Will Come (DFA)
As any self-perceived know-it-all, Pitchfork-fearing music blogger could probably attest, it would just be a whole lot easier not to have to write a particularly involved review of any DFA album, because it's expected that a) you'll gush over it and b) it will be amazing. Luckily for us––and for those of us who aren't bloggers––DFA bands keep getting rave reviews because DFA keeps putting out epic albums.
The Juan MacLean (Spanish for "John McLean") has been a part of DFA for years but has never gotten the same degree of attention from fans or critics as bigger names like LCD Soundsystem or Hot Chip, but with the release of single "Happy House," so began the buzz.
MacLean and co. veer more towards traditional house than the Disco 2.0 of other projects like Hercules & Love Affair, breaking it down to just percussion, light synths and the seductive vocals of Nancy Whang. But even with just the fundamentals, there's a lot to like here. "Accusations" features Parliament-style electric fuzz and a sexy bass riff while the new-wavey "The Station" sounds like a love child between Depeche Mode and Cut Copy. But like pretty much everything else DFA has thrown out there, the through-line of the album continues to be addictive, simple dance-pop.
"Happy House" is one of those rare tracks everyone can dance to, and the refrain of "You are so excellent" is sung so sultrily and sincerely by Whang that even the most awkward hipsters will begin to believe it as they shuffle and grind on the disco floor.
Cuando cualquier sabelotodo de ser-percibió, blogger de música que tema del Pitchfork, probablemente podría atestiguar, acabar de ser un terreno entero más fácil de no tener que escribir una revisión especialmente implicada de cualquier álbum de DFA, porque ha esperado que a) usted saldrá a chorros sobre ello y b) estará asombrando. Por suerte para nosotros––y para los que no son bloggers––bandas de DFA mantienen reseñas entusiastas que consiguen porque DFA mantiene apagar álbumes épicos.

MacLean y s.a. se vira más hacia casa tradicional que el Disco 2,0 de otros proyectos como Hercules & Love Affair, lo descomponiendo a justo percusión, sint. ligeras y el seductor vocal de Nancy Whang. Pero aún con justo los fundamentos, hay mucho en querer aquí. Las "acusaciones" representan Parlamento-Estilo pelusa eléctrica y un riff bajo atractiva mientras el nuevo-wavey "The Station" sonidos como un niño del amor entre Depeche Mode y Cut Copy. Pero como bastante mucho todo más DFA ha echado allí, la por-línea del álbum continúa ser baile-taponazo adictivo y sencillo. La "Happy House" es uno de esos vestigios raros que todos pueden bailar a, y al estribillo de "You are so excellent" es cantado tan bochornosamente y sinceramente por Whang que aún los entusiastas de jazz más difíciles comenzarán a creerlo como ellos barajan y muelen en el piso de club.
